HIV Response and Youth Leadership Training in Yangon

Training Announcement:  HIV Response and Youth Leadership Training from 11th -14th September 2013, Yangon, Myanmar

UNESCO is working for HIV prevention education among young people, including young people from key populations. We are pleased to announce that “HIV Response and Youth Leadership” training will be conducted in Yangon from 11th to 14th September 2013.

This four day course is developed for emerging young leaders in HIV response, many of whom are young people from key populations at higher risk of HIV exposure such as men who have sex with men, transgender people, people who inject drugs, people who sell sex and people living with HIV. The purpose of the training is to equip the participants with capabilities to be able to play a greater role in country’s HIV response and to prepare them with the necessary skills to become future leaders in HIV response.

Objectives
- To understand HIV transmission among young people
- To understand about effective HIV prevention interventions
- To build leadership skills for young people to play a greater role in country’s HIV
response
- To create connections and to offer friendship and support among young people from
key populations at higher risk of HIV infection

Summary of Course Content
- Understanding basic facts about HIV/AIDS
- Understanding situation of young key people from key populations
- Understanding data, using data in key messages in advocacy
- Using ecological Model to understand root causes
- Effective HIV interventions
- Leadership-definition, styles of leadership and qualities of good leaders
- Vision for preferred future and selecting strategies to achieve the objectives
- Networking, youth leadership and youth participation

Training Dates:  11.9.2013 - 14.9.2013 (9.00 am to 5.00pm)

Participants Criteria
- Age: 18 to 25 years
- Young people from key populations such as men who have sex with men, transgender people, people who use drugs, people who sell sex or young people living with HIV
- Able to attend full course of training and able to travel to Yangon

Training venue
Central Hotel, No. 335-357, Bogyoke Aung San Road, Yangon

Number of participants
Maximum 30 participants
(If more than 30 apply, priority will be given to those who apply first)

Training fee and other costs
Training is free for all participants. Lunch and tea will be provided to all participants during training period. For participants who attend from townships other than Yangon, transportation cost, daily allowance (as UNESCO standard rate) and accommodation will be provided.
