A book on using films for sexuality education, authored by Dr. Fang Gang of the Institute of Sexuality & Gender Studies of Beijing Forestry University, with support from UNESCO Beijing Office, has recently been published by China Renmin University Press.

While sexuality education is increasingly gaining public recognition in China, there exist wide-ranging ideas about the best approach to conduct sexuality education.

UNESCO led the development of the International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education and has been supporting the implementation of sexuality education in China since 2010. We promote a comprehensive framework for sexuality education, which address key issues such as relationships, human development, sexual behaviour, sexual and reproductive health, values, attitudes and skills, as well as cultural and social norms as related to sexuality. We encourage the use of traditional and social media to bring essential sexuality-related knowledge to children and young people, and to help them form right values and develop critical thinking, communication and decision-making skills through interactive and open discussions, so as to ensure their sexual and reproductive health.

Popular films can offer good educational opportunities for children and young people. Based on a mutual understanding of the importance of sexuality education and learning styles of children and young people, UNESCO Beijing Office and the Institute of Sexuality and Gender Studies of Beijing Forestry University cooperated on a project to explore utilization of films to facilitate discussions and stimulate thinking among children and young people of different age groups about the various aspects of sexuality. This book has been prepared by the Institute of Sexuality and Gender Studies as a result of this exploration.

This book aims to serve as a valuable reference for educators, including parents, to help them explore key issues related to sexuality among children and young people.
