In support of its work in promoting gender equality and anti-homophobia in the education sector, UNESCO Beijing Office recently published the Chinese version of the Lesson Plan for the International Day against Homophobia & Transphobia (IDAHOT) developed by UNESCO Headquarters and the IDAHOT Committee.
It contains four activities designed for primary and secondary school students of different age groups to assist learners understand the importance of respect for all people and the acceptance of diversity. The publication serves to assist educators to facilitate open discussions and handle questions in respect of diverse options so as to foster a safe environment in classroom and in the school.
The lesson plans in this package provide a means for educators to begin to address issues of homophobic bullying in their school setting without necessarily becoming an expert on homophobia and transphobia. We encourage educators to use these lesson plans, share it with colleagues and partners, and adapt according to local actual conditions. We hope these lesson plans can help to make learning safer and contribute to a quality Education for All.
